Plumbing designers typically have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
- Designing and drafting plans for plumbing systems including water supply lines, waste disposal systems, and storm drains
- Communicating with clients throughout the design process to ensure that their needs are met
- Creating drawings and sketches of plumbing systems for use in building permits and construction plans
- Performing site surveys to determine the location of new plumbing lines or fixtures
- Working with other members of a construction team during the building phase of a project
- Supervising workers who are installing plumbing systems so that they are installed correctly
- Estimating materials and labor costs for new projects
- Compiling and updating records of construction costs to help track expenditures for clients
- Planning for future expansion of existing plumbing systems to accommodate growth
