Field Engineers (supervisor, operator etc.)

Field service engineers ensure that every aspect of oil production runs smoothly. They are responsible for the calibration and repair of all equipment used in the oil drilling process. They are responsible for all aspects of the jobsite, which includes maintaining safety rules, schedules, and equipment.

Field service engineers may work on an oil rig or land rig. They are responsible for all training, as well as setting all procedures used on the site they are responsible for. Oftentimes, these engineers will be responsible for meeting with clients as well. They will troubleshoot any difficulties, provide reports, make recommendations, and ensure that their rig is running optimally.

Field service engineers have highly specialized careers, and the requirements vary by the workplace. Often, the engineer will spend large periods of time onsite. To obtain this position, a bachelor’s degree in engineering is usually required. Each employer has different requirements, but most have a minimum of three weeks of intense training on the relevant rig. This training can also take up to three years or longer. This is highly demanding position, and it can require a large amount of time on the engineer’s feet, as well as many late nights devoted to handling emergency situations.
