Job Description:

Leading and inspiring a team of content creators and copywriters

Contribute new campaign ideas and suggestions, or ways of adding to or developing existing campaigns.

Researching, developing and checking all content, from on-page copy, articles and blogs to campaign content and long-form and data rich content pieces.

Producing different types of content (SEO, articles, infographics and creative content)

Understanding brand and tone of voice. Applying these to all strategies and creative content

Act as an advocate of content, being trusted and knowledgeable, within the department and the agency. Work closely with design to ensure the creative direction is aligned and adhered to

 

Creating editorial plans targeted at specific audiences to drive engagement

Using creative problem solving to find solutions to problems posed by tricky client briefs and competing priorities

Have experience and understanding of budgets and time allocation 

Create and review proposals

 

Creating social content

Working with strategists, identifying and creating strategies to address content development opportunities

Aligning creative ideas with the content’s pre-defined goals and targets

Help to refine and manage approaches and processes within the team to ensure the utmost efficiency

 

Designing effective strategies for clients and prospects

Participate in quoting, upselling and bringing in new projects effectively

Participate in client or prospect strategy brainstorms and discussions, instilling an appreciation of processes, approach and aptitude

Make suggestions to senior management around the long-term direction and strategy for our approach to copy and content, identifying threats and opportunities for the future, proposing ways we can counter or take advantage of them

 

Client meetings:

Eloquently and convincingly presenting concepts, ideas and messages clearly to clients and colleagues

Meet with clients to discuss the strategy, execution and results of campaigns, copy and/or content

 

Team management:

Have regular 1:1 meetings with your direct reports to discuss challenges, progress against goals and job satisfaction 

Run weekly team meetings and take your team for lunch or drinks as necessary

Provide support, guidance and feedback to the copywriters

Set individual short and long-term goals for your team that take into account both the overall strategy for the agency and the individual goals and aspirations of your team members and run the annual review process for your team members

Use time reports and client utilisation stats to help you manage team workloads appropriately (and ensure your team is accurately completing this information on time each week)

Adapt personal management style to facilitate different team dynamics

Desired Profile / Criteria / Skills :

Essential skills and experience:

  • At least 7 years’ agency side experience in copy/content and at least 5 years’ overall experience in copy/content, with team management experience
  • Degree preferably in marketing, communications, journalism, literature, multimedia or a related field
  • Keen and able to make the role their own, having a vision, defining and refining processes, and adjusting these within the current agency structure
  • A good understanding of how search engines work and off-site SEO strategies and techniques
  • Experience of working with SEO, in relation to copy optimisation
  • Experience of working on content campaigns
  • Solid copywriting experience, preferably agency-side, with an understanding of how to create content of varying forms, differing target audiences, tone of voice and objectives
  • Experience in writing and creating content with an understanding of how to create optimal content
  • Immaculate proofreading and eye for detail
  • Work effectively; collaborating with a team and can keep to tight deadlines
  • Have a head for numbers – with experience providing estimates and managing budgets
  • Deep understanding of modern creative storytelling bridging different media and platforms
  • An up-to-date understanding of the content industry
  • Possess the ability to articulate and educate about content and why it matters
  • A confident and clear communicator – ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format
